Tom Cruise's 80s bombshell ex and iconic 90s villain is unrecognizable at 65... who is she?

An 1980s bombshell who became an iconic 1990s film villain was unrecognizable when she surfaced in Los Angeles this week.

She shot to stardom in one of Tom Cruise’s early beloved hits, striking up a real life romance with him behind the scenes of the picture.

In the following decade, she delivered an unforgettable performance as a sinister nanny hatching a secret scheme of revenge.

Her storied love life included not just Tom, but also the beloved musician Leonard Cohen, the actor Harry Dean Stanton and the writer Bruce Wagner.

At the age of 65, she was seen at the Los Angeles County Museum Of Art (LACMA) this week in the company of a friend, looking fashionable in a sleek black leather jacket.

Can you guess who she is?

She is none other than Rebecca De Mornay, Tom Cruise’s Risky Business co-star and the chilling antagonist of The Hand That Rocks The Cradle.

When she was glimpsed at LACMA this week, Rebecca sported a black leather jacket over a matching fabric blouse and leggings set.

Bringing the look together with a gleaming set of blue sunglasses, she wore her trademark strawberry blonde locks down with a fringe.

Her latest sighting comes more than 40 years after she became a movie star with the release of the 1983 teen comedy Risky Business.

Rebecca featured as an escort called Lana, whom Tom Cruise’s teenage character Joel calls for her services while his parents are out of town.

The strong connection they displayed on screen seemed to spill over into real life, reportedly leading to the end of her relationship with Harry Dean Stanton, her co-star in the 1981 film One From The Heart directed by Francis Ford Coppola.

Rebecca and Tom ultimately remained together for two and a half years, dating from 1982 – while making Risky Business – until 1985.

During that era, she delivered memorable performances in films such as The Trip To Bountiful alongside Geraldine Page and John Heard, as well as in Runaway Train with Jon Voight and Eric Roberts.

Then in 1992 came the release of one of her biggest hit movies, and one of those that remains best-remembered by her fans to this day.

The Hand That Rocks The Cradle stars Rebecca as Mrs. Mott, the widow of an OBGYN who commits suicide amid a flood of sexual abuse allegations from patients.

Shattered by her husband’s loss, Mrs. Mott miscarries the child she was pregnant with at the time that he fell under scandal and killed himself.

She becomes bent on revenge and assumes a new identity as a nanny called Peyton Flanders – in the home of Annabella Sciorra’s character Claire, one of the women whose claims brought down Dr. Mott.

Her unfolding vengeance plot is the main storyline of The Hand That Rocks The Cradle, a smash hit that drew praise for Rebecca’s scenery-chewing work.

Rebecca’s more recent work includes the 2005 comedy classic Wedding Crashers and a role on the Marvel series Jessica Jones.

On the personal front, her love life included a marriage to writer Bruce Wagner from 1986 to 1990 and a subsequent romance with Leonard Cohen, who dedicated his 1992 album The Future to her – a few years before he became a Buddhist monk and retreated from fame into a monastery.
