ALLEGED Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann has abandoned his wife hours before a crucial court hearing as she cuts ties and vows to “move on.”
Heuermann, a 61-year-old architect from Massapequa Park, New York, was arrested for the murders of several women almost two years ago. Recently, he and his wife, Asa Ellerup, have decided to end their marriage.

Just before Heuermann was set to appear in court for a hearing regarding the admissibility of crucial DNA evidence in his trial, the couple finalized an uncontested divorce settlement the night before.
Prosecutors say that the evidence connects the alleged killer to the murder of seven women on Long Island from the early 1990s to the early 2010s.
Most of the women were found along Ocean Parkway, which is the road that Long Islanders take to visit several famed beaches, including Gilgo Beach.
The alleged killer has pleaded not guilty to all seven murders.
Heuermann and Ellerup signed divorce papers Thursday night, but it still has to be made final by a judge.
According to Ellerup’s divorce attorney, Robert Macedonio, the couple ended their 29-year marriage in order for Ellerup to focus on moving forward with her life and concentrating on her future and that of her children.
However, the estranged wife still plans to show up to court Friday morning.
“She’ll be attending tomorrow’s Frye hearing in Riverhead and is still withholding judgment on Rex’s guilt until all evidence is played out in the courtroom,” Ellerup’s lawyer said.
