Viral footage shows a light aircraft circling over the party whilst Pakistani music sounds below.
Plumes of paper flutter from the plane and down through the sky – and it soon becomes clear it is cash.
Guests can be seen gazing and pointing into the sky in disbelief as the notes float to the ground.
The money falls around the large party, with guests sitting at tables and milling around a courtyard.
The dad from Hyderabad, a city in the southern Sindh province of Pakistan, rented the aircraft for the lavish gesture to celebrate his son’s wedding.
The reception was at the bride’s house, meaning the money fell onto his daughter-in-law’s land.
Millions of rupees fell through the sky – equivalent to tens of thousands of pounds.
The user who shared the video on X wrote: “The bride’s father’s request…
“The groom’s father rented a plane for his son’s wedding and dropped millions of rupees on the bride’s house.
“Now it seems the groom will continue to pay off his father’s debt for the rest of his life,” the post in Urdu read.”
The man’s behaviour was met with both bemusement and criticism for being wasteful when so many people in Pakistan live in poverty.
One user responded: “Instead of throwing cash from the skies, this money could have been used to help the underprivileged.”
Another wrote: “This is an example of how not to spend your wealth.”
A third commenter saw the lighter side, quipping: “Forget the groom; the bride’s neighbours must be the happiest people right now.”
The eye-catching stunt is the latest in a growing trend of unusual and lavish gestures at weddings in south Asia.
