Deputy Chief Mark McCormick, of the Kenner Police Department, said today that Colbert, of Slidell, has been booked on fraud and theft charges.
Manzano died on Wednesday while covering the Super Bowl in New Orleans – just months after his wife’s tragic death.
He was described by colleagues as a “rising star.”
Manzano, 27, had been in New Orleans to report on the big game for Telemundo Kansas City and Tico Sports.
Kenner Police officers said today in a statement that they were continuing their investigation into the death of Manzano.
They added that the reporter had been “found unresponsive in his Kenner hotel room.”
The statement said that officers had arrested Colbert after a probe into the use of the dead reporter’s credit cards.
The investigation allegedly revealed that Colbert was using a
credit card belonging to Manzano at several stores in the New Orleans area, it added.
The police allegation continued: “Additionally, security
video from the hotel shows Colbert with Mr. Manzano on the morning of February 5, 2025.
“The footage also shows her leaving the room alone later that morning.
“At this time, Colbert is only charged with property crimes, including fraud and theft-related offenses.
“However, this investigation remains ongoing.”
The police also said that Colbert “has an arrest record that includes allegations of drugging men, theft of currency, fraudulent use
of credit and debit cards, and other financial crimes.”
These crimes were alleged to have happened in the New Orleans area, and in Las Vegas.
If you have any information about Danette Colbert and her suspected involvement in the crimes, Kenner Police is requesting you to contact the Criminal Investigations Division at (504) 712-2222 or Crime Stoppers at (504) 822-1111.
The police Department hasn’t as yet returned The U.S. Sun’s request for further comment.

Adan Manzano was found dead in his hotel room in New Orleans on February 5.
Manzano, a 27-year-old reporter for Kansas City’s Telemundo affiliate KGKC-LD, was in New Orleans on assignment when he died.
Tico Sports released a statement expressing their sorrow over the passing of Adan Manzano Aguilar in New Orleans while on duty for Telemundo Kansas City and as part of the Tico Sports Spanish broadcasting team.
“We are cooperating with law enforcement as they are investigating this tragic event.
Adan was known for his skill and professionalism as a broadcaster, covering sidelines for the Kansas City Chiefs’ Spanish broadcasts and serving as the play-by-play announcer for the KC Current.
“He was an enthusiastic and energetic team player who was well-liked and respected.
“Adan was a devoted father to his young daughter, a helpful colleague, and loyal friend.
“He will be greatly missed by our Tico family and will live on in our hearts and memories.”
Manzano had joined the Chiefs Television Crew at the beginning of the 2024 season as a sideline reporter.
His death came months after his beloved wife, Ashleigh LeeAnn Boyd, 24, tragically died last year as the result of a car crash in Topeka.
She had worked as an elementary school teacher, and died following a two-vehicle, head-on crash on April 11 reported CBS affiliate 13 WIBW.
The couple’s orphaned child – who was reportedly seriously injured in the crash – was just 15 months old when her mom died.
The cause of Manzano’s death has not as yet been determined, reported New Orleans news website Nola.com.
A spokesperson for the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office said it was awaiting the results of further testing.
However, authorities said there were no signs of obvious trauma to the reporter’s body.
McCormick told Nola.com that Colbert has not been booked on any charges directly related to Manzano’s death.
He was preparing to cover his third Super Bowl for Kansas City’s Telemundo affiliate KGKC-LD.
Originally from Mexico City, he moved to Topeka, Kansas, in 2018 and went on to graduate from Kansas State University.
Manzano fell in love with American football and took great pride in sharing the stories of people from different backgrounds.
Tragically, in one of his final posts on Facebook, Manzano shared a family picture of his beloved wife and young daughter as they celebrated their daughter’s first birthday a year before his death.
