A 39-year-old Maine woman has been charged with murder after a 14-year-old boy was found dead in Kennebec County.
Maine State Police reported that an incident was brought to their attention by a woman at her residence in Sidney shortly before 5:30 a.m. on Friday at the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, as stated by WMTW. Deputies there reached out to the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office due to the location of the home.
Upon conducting a welfare check at the residence, deputies discovered the deceased boy outside. The findings of an autopsy revealed that the cause of death for the boy was asphyxiation, manual strangulation, and sharp force injury.
Following the discovery, Maine State Police detectives initiated an inquiry and took Megan McDonald into custody just before 2 p.m. WCHS informed that according to Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety, McDonald had reported the incident at the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office.
The teen’s identity has not been released.
Regional School Unit 18 Superintendent Carl Gartley said Friday morning that a Messalonskee High School student had died without naming the student, WMTW reported. Messalonskee serves students from Sidney and several unincorporated communities of Kennebec County.
