Woman Set on Fire While Sleeping in Subway Car

A woman died Sunday morning after a man got onto a subway train at a Brooklyn station, set her on fire, and then left the train.

Authorities released pictures of the perpetrator and offered a $10,000 reward, the same amount that was put forward for the recent homicide of a health insurance CEO within the city, according to WCBS.

“We possess visual evidence of the individual responsible and are collaborating closely with NYPD authorities to locate and apprehend him for this needless and dreadful act,” stated MTA Chief Security Officer Michael Kemper.

Officers were called to the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue subway station around 7:30 a.m., according to WABC.

The individual in question is described as being 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing around 150 pounds, estimated to be between 25 and 30 years old. He was last observed wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, a dark knit hat with a red band, and brown boots. Officials did not disclose the direction in which he fled and are uncertain about the relationship between the man and the woman.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). You can also submit a tip via their website or via DM on Twitter, @NYPDTips. All calls are kept confidential.
