Man arrested after woman stabbed, kidnapped near West 25th Street in Cleveland

The man has been arrested for kidnapping, felonious assault and aggravated robbery. Cleveland police say charges are pending.

A 50-year-old man is in police custody after allegedly assaulting and abducting a woman in Ohio City, Cleveland.

Cleveland law enforcement shared that they received a call about a stabbing incident around 5 a.m. on April 15th and dispatched officers from the Second District to Lutheran Hospital.

According to reports, a 59-year-old woman stated that while she was walking close to West 25th Street and Detroit Avenue, an unfamiliar man came up to her and requested the time.

Police say that after she responded, the man allegedly pulled out a box cutter, threatened to kill her and forced her to walk with him.

While walking toward West 28th Street, the victim fell to the ground and the suspect began stabbing her multiple times, according to police.

The man then fled the scene.

Investigators used resources from the department’s Real Time Crime Center to identify and track a vehicle to a home in the 5700 block of Storer Avenue. Officers arrested the suspect at that location without incident.

“This incident highlights the outstanding work our officers do every day and our commitment to public safety,” said Cleveland Police Chief Dorthy Todd. “This suspect committed a violent act against a vulnerable woman. Our officers acted swiftly to identify the individual, locate and arrest this violent offender. Detectives secured vital evidence that will be critical in court.”

The man was arrested for kidnapping, felonious assault and aggravated robbery.

The victim was treated for her injuries and released from the hospital.
