Simon Cowell worried ITV’s The Royal Variety Performance viewers on Sunday as the music mogul and TV legend took to the stage.

Simon, for almost two decades now a towering figure of talent show television from Pop Idol to The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent, joined The Royal Variety to introduce his act.

Vigo Venn won BGT’s 2023 series and in so doing earned a spot on the Royal Variety bill as part of the show’s prize.

Simon then took to the stage wearing some slightly wonky red glasses to introduce Vigo – and caused some concerns from viewers at home that he looks like George Michael.

@crazygreeny said: “Simon cowell looked very thin”

@cameronclark98 said: “Is it me, or does Simon Cowell look like a ventriloquist doll?”

@dazfromsomerset said: “Simon cowell has turned into George Micheal”

And a lot of viewers found Viggo Venn to be just as divisive this time around, too, including people who had never watched Britain’s Got Talent and were just discovering his brand of comedy for the first time.

@pjn51 said; “This one more time thing, is that really the act that one BGT? Dear god, so glad we don’t watch it. #RoyalVarietyPerformance”

@AmyTeamLH said: “All of this hate for Viggo Venn is not needed nor warranted. Word of advice would be to not take everything so damn seriously. He’s having fun and enjoying himself and that’s all that matters”

@wendysm165 said; “#RoyalVarietyPerformance So the guy from BGT just repeats the act he did on the show, recording people’s voices? The only way that could be refreshed would be to use a massive extending pole and get William and/or Kate to do it.”

@simonMI5 said: “Vigo is bonkers but brilliant, especially as the missus doesn’t crack a smile.”

The Royal Variety Performance is on ITV1 and ITVX
