Zach Wilson will not only be benched this week when the Jets face the Miami Dolphins, he’ll be demoted to third string.
Jets head coach Robert Saleh confirmed that Tim Boyle will start on Friday during the Jets Black Friday game, but then told reporters that Trevor Siemian would serve as the backup over Wilson.
It’s a significant fall from grace for Wilson, who has had a tumultuous time as the Jets quarterback since they drafted him second overall in 2021.
It also raises significant questions yet again about Wilson’s status with the franchise going forward.
Saleh did little to temper them when he spoke Monday afternoon, a day after the Jets fell 32-6 to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
“We’ll deal with it in the offseason, right now it’s really about Miami,” Saleh said.

It was first reported on Monday morning that Wilson would be replaced as the starter this week after he was benched in the loss on Sunday.
He completed seven passes for 81 yards and threw a touchdown and interception against Buffalo before being benched for Boyle in the third quarter.
