Famous sportscaster Rachel Nichols married Hollywood director and producer Max Nichols in 2001, and they share two children. Although they are a celebrity couple, the pair usually keep their private life away from the media.

However, the public knows a rumor that might have shaken their marriage. There was speculation that Rachel slept with NBA star Jimmy Butler. However, no proof supporting the allegations was released, and a year after the incident, Max and Rachel’s marriage is still going strong.

Who Is Max Nichols?

Max Nichols is not one of the most notable names in Hollywood, but he has undoubtedly played a role in the filmmaking industry. Born on December 9, 1973, to an iconic filmmaker and theatre director, Mike Nichols, Max’s passion for movies has seen him follow in his father’s footsteps.

Among his credited roles in Hollywood include directing the 2014 romantic comedy, “Two Night Stand,” which was headlined by Hollywood star Miles Teller. He further directed one episode of the television drama “Day 5” in 2017. He is currently working on a project called “Chemistry Lessons,” which is yet to be released.

On the personal front, the filmmaker is one of two children his father shared with his first wife, Annabel Davis-Goff, from Ireland, who worked as a writer. Unlike his son, Mike is a much more revered movie director. Unfortunately for the Nichols family, they lost their patriarch in 2014. He was 83 years old at the time.

Rachel Nichols Doesn’t Speak about Her Husband Much

Max and Rachel married on May 25, 2001, and the couple welcomed twin daughters during their time as a married couple. However, much of their personal lives is a well-kept secret in the family.

Rachel boasts a large social media following of more than 830k and a massive 5300 posts. The posts, in their large number, have mostly to do with her work as a journalist and do not share aspects of her personal life, including her husband and kids. She also does not usually speak about them in interviews.

However, one time in 2021, Rachel reflected on the Covid-19 pandemic by talking about her children and how they navigated the difficult period. She pointed out that her children were in third grade at the time of the interview, and she and Max would drive them to non-contact play dates with their friends.

The Couple Met at a Summer Camp

Max is reported to have met his future wife during a summer camp. They were still young when they first encountered each other, and nothing serious came of that. However, later in their lives, Max got hold of Rachel, and the pair reconnected.

By the time Max and Rachel got married, she had established a journalism career after being employed first by the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel and later by The Washington Post. As a sports journalist, she has covered wide-ranging sporting codes, including baseball, basketball, and tennis.

She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism at 21. Her exchange with Michael Jordan while covering the Chicago Bulls during her intern days was instrumental in shaping her profile as a highly confident and skilled journalist.

After several years as a newspaper journalist, Rachel moved to television in 2004. Her first job was at ESPN. Since then, she has gone on to work for CNN, Showtime, TNT, and CBS. However, she unceremoniously parted ways with ESPN in 2022 after controversial comments about the network giving her slot to a black woman.

2021 Rumors about Rachel Nichols and Jimmy Butler

In recent times, the seasoned journalist appears to have been attracting a lot of controversies. Her departure from ESPN after a leaked conversation with LeBron James’s PR advisor was not the only blip in her career in the past two years.

In 2021, Twitter went haywire after damaging allegations about her sleeping with NBA star Jimmy Butler were made. Many fans offered their thoughts on the matter, and a considerable number seemed to believe the rumor, perhaps, due to her constant interaction with basketball players.

The speculation surrounding her infidelity was propelled by a website called Jordan Thrilla, which ran a story claiming that a leaked tape of the pair in a comprising position had been obtained. However, the website failed to provide evidence for their story and even took down the article after a short while.

Still, the damage had already been done. Twitter warriors had already made the rumor trend, and some even found the funny side of it. One user shared a photo of Will Smith looking sorrowful as a meme with the caption, “Rachel Nichols husband waking up to see why Jimmy Butler is trending.”

Due to the controversy, Max’s name was eventually dragged into online reactions as one of the parties most affected by the speculation. However, it does not look as though he and Rachel’s relationship has been significantly affected by the rumors.
