pope francis

It’s often the case that when you become a celebrity, you can move from one career to another with ease. And, it’s been proven many times over the years as being the case. But just which of the career switches are most popular, and which have been most famous in the last decade or so?

Pope Francis

The Pope is one of the most famous men on the planet. Pope Francis is the leader of the Catholic Church, and for many, he is God’s representative here on planet earth. But, before he became the Pope, he led a different life, one that is quite unrecognisable when you compare it to the life he leads today. In his younger years, Pope Francis worked as a janitor at a Buenos Aires nightclub during the day and then as a doorman at night. Yes, the Pope was a nightclub bouncer.

Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson is famed for being one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time. He has a knockout reel that is legendary and will go down in history as the idol of many. However, after leaving the ring, Iron Mike needed to continue earning money, which has led him to take up many ventures, including legally growing cannabis, podcasting, and there was even a slot game created using him as inspiration, called Mike Tyson Knockout, one of the most popular sports-based online slots played on mobile devices today.

Harrison Ford

It’s fair to say that one of Harrison Ford’s most prominent roles in the acting game came when he was cast as Han Solo in the Star Wars movie franchise, one of the most successful collections of films ever produced. However, before being cast in the role, did you know that Ford was actually working as a humble carpenter? It’s believed that his work alongside George Lucas during screen tests led him to be handed the role, and since then, he’s gone on to be cast in more movies and has become a critically acclaimed actor and producer in his own right.

Whoopi Goldberg

Actresses don’t come much bigger than Whoopi Goldberg, who has won awards including an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. However, before making it in Hollywood as an actress or writer and TV host, Goldberg was more at home with dead people. Yes, you read that right, the actress used to work in a funeral parlour where she prepared those who had recently passed by doing their hair and makeup. So, you could say it’s rather fitting that Goldberg then went on to be the star of the Sister Act film series, where she played a nun.

Career changes, especially drastic ones, aren’t for everyone, but many celebrities have come from humble positions and jobs to be thrust into the spotlight. And others have made it in one area of celebrity, such as the sporting world, before expanding into others due to their fame and one door closing and another door opening.
