  • Elon Musk Blames X Outages on Cyberattack Claims a Country May Be Behind It, He said there was a massive cyberattack against X platform.
  • Musk claimed the cyberattack was done with a lot resources.
  • The platform X faced significant disruptions earlier on Monday.

Elon Musk, the owner of X, stated that the social media platform experienced a significant cyberattack, causing disruptions that prevented many users from accessing it.

He wrote in a post,

“There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against X,”

adding that

“We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources,”

and implied that

“either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved.”

During an interview with Fox Business, Musk mentioned that the IP addresses associated with the attack appeared to originate from Ukraine, but he did not offer any evidence to support this claim. Experts in cybersecurity cautioned that the attack’s connection to Ukraine does not definitively indicate the source of the attack.

According to Downdetector.com, a website that monitors such incidents, approximately 40,000 users encountered difficulties with X around 10 a.m. Eastern Time (2 p.m. UTC) on Monday, during the peak of the outage. The reported numbers fluctuated, dropping significantly before increasing to about 35,000 around noon, and then decreasing once more. Since Musk assumed control of the platform in 2022, X, formerly known as Twitter, has experienced several technical hitches.

According to Downdetector, users started experiencing issues around 6 a.m. ET, with about 20,538 reporting problems. Things seemed to get better for a bit, but nearly 40,000 users were back to facing difficulties by 10 a.m. Reports of outages began to lessen around 2 p.m. ET and continued to drop through the afternoon.

Many users found the platform to be unresponsive, and the outage appeared to be widespread, as shown by various reports on DowDetector’s regional sites. During the Fox Business segment aired at 4 p.m. ET, Musk mentioned that the platform was up and running again.
