CASE DETAILS

The shooting happened on Feb. 7, when Kaden was in the back seat of a vehicle parked near East 147th Street and Edgewood Avenue. According to investigators, Jeffrey Grant and an unknown male approached the vehicle and opened fire before fleeing the scene.

Officials previously told 3News that a bullet struck Kaden in the head. He was later pronounced dead at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital on Feb. 8.

On Feb. 10, police executed a search warrant at a home in Maple Heights. Investigators allegedly discovered a drug lab in the basement with “large amounts of drugs” including over 550 grams of cocaine. Both Jeffrey and his wife Lanaemarshe were present and arrested.

Grant, who has since been arrested, has been indicted on 16 charges, including aggravated murder, attempted murder, felonious assault, and multiple drug and weapons offenses.

Lanaemarshe Grant is also facing charges, including involuntary manslaughter and drug trafficking. Prosecutors allege she rented the vehicle used in the shooting.

Previously, Jeffrey Grant pleaded not guilty to the charges and a $2 million bond was set. Lanaemarshe Grant also pleaded not guilty to the charges against her, which include involuntary manslaughter and several drug offenses. Her bond was set at $500,000.

At a Town Hall hosted by Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb, the murder of Kaden was spotlighted when 10-year-old Lorenzo Roberson gave a powerful speech asking the adults in the room if he, too, would have to be worried about his life being cut short.

“I am Kaden because his spirit now lives within me,” Lorenzo said. “I am Kaden because I am 10 years old, too. I get good grades, too. I respect my family, my teachers and myself. I’m Kaden because I believe in myself. Will I have a chance to survive? Will my life be cut short, too? All we want is hot food, something to do after school and to be safe in our community. You tell me, will the adults in this room make sure that I have a chance to grow? I am Kaden. His life is within me. I am Kaden. He lives within me.”
