Ronald Araujo collided with his teammate Gavi in the match that Barcelona defeated Celta de Vigo 3-1, although the worst part was taken by the Uruguayan, who suffered a concussion and was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

The board of directors of the Blaugrana issued a brief statement indicating that “the first team player Ronald Araujo has a concussion and has been taken to a hospital for further tests“. He also left the stadium after regaining consciousness.

Chronicle of the terrible crash

It was the 60th minute of the match when the defender jumped to head a ball and hit his teammate Gavi, who complained of pain. The defender seemed not to have felt the impact too much, but seconds later, he was left on the grass and lost consciousness. Eric Garcia rushed over to assist him and he, as well as the visiting team’s captain Iago Aspas, instructed the medics to attend to him quickly.

Araújo, 23, lost consciousness as a result of the collision and was taken away by ambulance while the stands applauded and cheered for him. The match continued after being stopped for seven minutes.

When did Araujo arrive at Barcelona?

Araújo arrived at Barcelona in 2018 from Boston River of Uruguay. After serving two seasons in the B team, he earned a place in the first team and is currently in one of the stalwarts of the team, both with Ronald Koeman and Xavi Hernandez.

In addition, he has earned a place in Uruguay’s defense as they look to win another world title at the upcoming Qatar 2022 Cup.
