UFC heavyweight Tai Tuivasa is gearing up for a fight against Ciryl Gane in Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 209 at Accor Arena in Paris, France, but he’s already thinking of Jon Jones as a potential rival in the future.
Jones, 35, is reportedly moving up to heavyweight, looking for a new challenge after dominating the light heavyweight division for a decade.
During Thursday’s media day, Tuivasa told reporters that he would love to fight Jones before finishing his career.
“Jon Jones is the GOAT. He’s one of the greatest to ever fight. We all know this,” Tuivasa said. “But as a heavyweight, no one really knows. I’m sure that he’s still Jon Jones. He’s talented and his skill is great. But heavyweight’s a different kind of league ,and we don’t know. We have to wait and see.
“I’d love to fight him. I’ve said it before: This is why I do this. One day when I wrap up this whole fighting gig, I want to say I fought this guy and that guy – the best guys. I don’t want to come out (of the sport) and I didn’t have the opportunity to fight the best. So I’d love to fight Jon, and I’d love to knock his head off, as well. That would be pretty cool.”
Tuivasa-Jones beef
The ongoing beef between Tuivasa and Jones is setting up an epic heavyweight bout for the ages.
Known for drinking beer out of a shoe after his wins, Tuivasa is crazy enough to go toe-to-toe with Jones.
First, Tuivasa will have to get past Gane, which would give him his sixth consecutive victory, the last five coming via KO.
