Jax Taylor Admits It's Painful That Nobody Checks In On Him Amid Personal Struggles

On the most recent installment of Bravo’s show “The Valley,” just before reality TV personality Jax Taylor decided to seek help at a rehabilitation center for his cocaine dependency, he opened up about the various relationships in his life.

During a conversation with Kristen Doute regarding his son, Cruz, and the challenges he was encountering with his then-partner, Brittany Cartwright, Jax Taylor disclosed that no one within their social circle had reached out to inquire about his well-being, which greatly impacted his mental state.

In the second episode of “The Valley” titled “Checking In,” Taylor discussed with Doute the intense argument he had recently with Cartwright while the cameras were rolling.

“I’m a mess,” he admitted, to which Doute agreed. However, the latter came armed with advice and positive words, reminding the “House of Villains” star that he had every right to be upset about the challenges he was facing in his life.

“You can be pissed, scared, f-cking angry, but that doesn’t mean you have to do something about it,” she said, referring to his earlier revelation that he threw furniture toward Cartwright after discovering she hooked up with their friend while they were separated.

Later, Taylor revealed he had been struggling with negative feelings.

“I haven’t been happy in … The last time I was happy was before my son was born,” he said.

“Don’t you want to be?” Doute asked, to which Taylor replied, “I would k-ll to be happy. I hate waking up miserable.”

Then, as the conversation shifted toward Taylor’s behavior, which Cartwright claimed involved screaming and cursing, Doute told him that it was having a negative impact on the mother of his kid.

“What about me?” he responded. “Nobody checks in on me … I just don’t feel like [Cartwright] cares about me.”

Jax Taylor Previously Opened Up About Cocaine Addiction

For those who weren’t keeping up with Taylor during the off-season, his conversation with Doute wasn’t the first time he spoke candidly about issues in his life.

In March 2025, a month before the season 2 premiere of “The Valley,” Taylor opened up about his decades-long addiction to cocaine.

“I have substance issues—primarily with cocaine. It’s hard to say out loud,” he said before admitting he’s struggled with this battle “since I was 23 and now I’m 45.”

The reality star continued: “There [were] times where I would stop doing it, but then there were times where I’d go heavy on it.”

In later interviews, Taylor celebrated over 130 days of sobriety and praised his son as the main reason he decided to seek help.

However, according to Cartwright, she doesn’t believe their child had anything to do with him checking into a treatment center.

“I think if his job wasn’t on the line, he wouldn’t have went [to rehab],” she said.

“On the show, he’s like, ‘I’m going to miss out on a lot of things.’ Then, he says, ‘Going to miss out on Cruz.’ I feel like he knew that he was going to miss out [on] 30 days of not filming ‘The Valley’ with us,” she continued.

On his podcast, “In The Mind Of A Man,” Taylor acknowledged that the first several episodes of “The Valley” will be hard for viewers to digest. In fact, it was a challenge for him to watch, too. However, he wants the fans to have an open mind, especially considering he’s not in the same place he was when the show was in production.
