In a recent report by the Daily Beast,Johnny Depp fans paid $3k to unseal the court documents in an effort to learn more about Amber Heard, but they unintentionally exposed Depp and the information he had been trying to keep private.
More than 6,000 pages of court records from the Depp v. Heard trial were unsealed over the weekend. The documents shed new light on the case that went viral and revealed new information about each team’s legal strategy and the mountains of evidence that were disregarded.
This in the end, reflect very poorly on Johnny Depp and his legal team, and maybe, just maybe, opens up the discourse that Amber Heard might’ve been telling the truth all along.
Depp tried to submit Amber’s nudes to evidence and blame her for the death of her friend
Heard’s legal team argued to the judge in unsealed pre-trial court documents that the defamation trial should not include testimony regarding a number of “irrelevant personal matters,” alleging:
“Mr. Depp inappropriately seeks to introduce evidence of the following Irrelevant Personal Matters: (1) nude pictures of Amber Heard; (2) Amber Heard’s sister Whitney’s reality show video; (3) Whitney and Amber’s past romantic relationships; (4) Amber’s brief stint as an exotic dancer years before she met Mr. Depp and Mr. Depp attempting to frivolously and maliciously suggest or imply that Ms. Heard was at one time an escort.”
The recently unsealed court documents also include Whitney Henriquez’s deposition, which was taken on February 3, 2022. Throughout the interview, Depp’s lawyers question Heard about “Logan,” a friend of hers who died in a car accident when he was a teenager and had a significant effect on her, leaving her, in Henriquez’s words, “devastated.”
Henriquez initially responded “no” when Depp’s lawyers questioned whether Heard and Logan had ever been romantically involved or argued.
They then made an attempt to imply that Heard had told Henriquez she had been with Logan on the day of his death and/or was operating the vehicle he died in, but Henriquez refuted this claim. Henriquez responded, “It had nothing to do with that,” to Depp’s lawyers’ persistent questions about whether Heard’s driving privileges suspension “had anything to do with the accident in which Logan died.”
Henriquez added, “I never said I was subjected to any violence because of Amber,” in support of her testimony that Heard had never hit, slapped, or thrown anything at her.
More missing text messages
Exhibits of text messages that Depp’s former assistant Stephen Deuters sent to Heard in 2014 regarding the time Depp had allegedly “kicked” Heard during a fight aboard a private jet are among the newly unsealed documents.
Deuters texted Heard about Depp, saying, “If someone was truly honest with him about how bad it really was, he would be appalled. I’m sad he does not have a better way to really know the severity of his actions yesterday. Unfortunately for me, I remember them in full, in full detail, everything that happened. He was appalled, when I told him he kicked you, he cried.”
“Once again, I find myself in a place of shame and regret. Of course I am sorry… I will never do it again… My illness somehow crept up and grabbed me… I feel so bad for letting you down,” Depp texted Heard. He later texted to apologize, calling himself a “fucking savage” and a “lunatic,” in messages that Heard kept.
However, Depp’s legal team at Brown Rudnick was unable to locate any evidence of the texts in Depp’s iCloud and investigated the possibility that they had been, in their words, “deleted.” The law firm ultimately came to the conclusion that they were “missing” for an unknown reason. These texts pertaining to the “kicking” incident were presented in the U.K. trial but were excluded from the Virginia defamation trial due to lack of admissibility.
