Strictly Come Dancing’s Shirley Ballas revealed why she didn’t choose to save Layton Williams in the latest dance-off as she claims that he had broken the rules.
The head judge sparked a lot of attention on Sunday night after voting for Angela Scanlon and Carlos Gu to remain in the competition over Layton.
Despite not getting Shirley’s vote, Layton and his professional partner Nikita Kuzmin managed to survive the dance-off after being voted to stay by Craig Revel-Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton du Beke, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Addressing her decision, Shirely has since explained that she believes the Irish presenter’s routine was more masterful than her opponent’s.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain Shirley said that Layton didn’t do the American Smooth correctly in her view.
She added: “I felt that Angela stuck to the rules. The rules were it was a Cha Cha Cha and that’s what she did exquisitely well. And Layton is an absolutely marvellous dancer and he was from day one. From day one he’s been brilliant.
“But it was supposed to be an American Smooth and for me it didn’t hit the rules. I’m very much a rule follower.”
Shirley later denied that Layton has an unfair advantage over the other celebrity contestants because of his musical background.
Shirley said: “I don’t think it’s an unfair edge. I appreciate Layton having experience, but there’s other people also who have experience.”
Next week, Layton and Nikita will perform the Paso Doble to Backstage Romance from Moulin Rouge as part of Musicals Week.
