Health experts across the globe have described a mysterious illness spreading through China as a “Covid-like” scenario.
High alert levels have been recorded in other countries such as neighbouring India and there are fears the illness could threaten the UK. Indian officials are said to be wary of another virus spreading through their population like the outbreak of Covid in 2019.
The Daily Star reports the alerts come as a way of stopping a “Covid-like” virus from spreading out of China and into other countries. The illness is described as ‘pneumonia-adjacent’ and previous reports suggest it could end up in the UK.

Beijing hospitals are overrun following a big surge in respiratory diseases which have knocked China. Some Indian states are now preparing their own health services to brace for the virus with experts being briefed on what to do should there be an outbreak.
There are some fears the virus could make its way to Europe, but Professor Ian Jones, a virologist at the University of Reading, thinks “we might get away with it this season.”
“The important point is that this sort of ‘bounce back’ should be expected and the public health system should be aware of it,” he added.
The virus, now dubbed “walking pneumonia” has ripped through parts of China leaving the health service there on its knees as it deals with case after case of “white lung pneumonia”. Fever, cough, fatigue, green mucus and shortness of breath were all highlighted by doctors as possible symptoms of the grim and mysterious pneumonia strain surging through China.
