Emma Stone, Husband Dave McCary in Talks for Universal Film

Emma Stone and husband Dave McCary are in talks to work together on an untitled Universal project, with Stone as the star and McCary as the director.

Young Rock supervising producers Patrick Kang and Michael Levin wrote the original spec screenplay for the film. However, details about the project are being kept under wraps for now.

Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen and Dan Levine are set to produce through 21 Laps alongside Michael H. Weber. The married couple and Ali Herting are also in talks to produce through Fruit Tree.

Stone is fresh off of her second Oscar win for best actress after taking home the Academy Award for her role in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things this year. She previously won for La La Land in 2017. The actress is also known for her roles in The Favourite, The Help, Easy A, The Amazing Spider-Man and more.

The actress recently served as an executive producer on The Curse and is set to reunite with frequent collaborator Lanthimos this summer in his upcoming film, Kinds of Kindness.

McCary is a writer, director and producer who most recently worked on A Real Pain, Problemista and executive produced The Curse alongside Stone. He previously directed Brigsy Bear and served as a writer and director on Saturday Night Live, where he and Stone met in 2016, for five seasons.

Stone is repped by WME, Anonymous Content, The Lede Company and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole, while Mosaic and Myman Greenspan rep McCary.

Universal’s senior executive vice president of production development Erik Baiers and creative executive Jacqueline Garell will oversee the untitled film on behalf of the studio.
