Nate Diaz only has one more fight in his UFC contract in order to be free to do what ever he wants. For years now, the youngest of the Diaz brothers has been forced to turn down different types of ventures due to this contract. Basically, if Dana White doesn’t like you doing another sport while on contract, you are screwed.

Diaz has turned down offers to box celebrities that are extremely lucrative because of this, he wants out of the UFC and Dana white is not letting him. Not long ago, there were rumors of a potential final fight for Diaz against Khamzat Chimaev but it fell apart. To Nate, losing this final fight is not even important. Getting out of the contract is all that matters to him.

During an interview with MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, Diaz made another plea: “They haven’t offered me anybody. I’ve been asking for fights since whenever, I asked for a lot of fights. I asked for [Vicente] Luque, I asked for Tony Ferguson, I asked for like four or five people. It was never good on their side. They finally offered me Khamzat [Chimaev], I gave a little ‘what the f***?’, but then I thought why not?

“Let’s get it done with. I asked for the Khamzat fight. Then, all sorts of excuses started happening. I wanted January, I wanted March, I wanted all these things… I’m trying to get this show on the road, but they’re keeping me in my contract and they’re holding me hostage. I want out, that’s my main objective is.”

Why is Dana White taking so long to book Nate Diaz?

Let’s be clear here, Nate Diaz is one of the UFC’s biggest legends. His fights against Conor McGregor are the stuff of legends but he is no longer a great PPV draw. The last interesting thing he did was that clip on Leon Edwards that made his opponent wobble. Yet he still lost that fight. Diaz is no longer interesting to watch, he often gets hurt and takes a long time to heal.

However, Dana White knows how important he has been for the UFC and he is looking for an ideal opponent to end his career with a high. It’s not that Dana White doesn’t want to let Nate Diaz out of his contract, he just wants to find an ideal opponent for him to retire. That’s all.
