Who is Darrell Meekcom ?
A retired college professor who was terminally ill was arrested by six police officers in his backyard after showing his butt to a speed camera, which was on his wish list.
Darrell Meekcom, 55, drew up a list of things he wanted to do before he died after receiving the tragic news last month that he had multisystem atrophy.
Among the elements was the moon with a speed camera, which he managed to mark on Friday, November 5, when he discovered his rear in a pickup truck in Kidderminster, Worcestershire.
The disabled father-of-two and former nurse was stunned when the police officer did not see the funny side and contacted his colleagues to report the “indecent exposure.”
Arrested
Just 20 minutes later, three police cars pulled up in front of the home of Meekcom, who also has Parkinson’s disease and heart and kidney problems, and demanded to be allowed in.
Mr Meekcom added: ‘I did not resist arrest once and felt that the response was completely disproportionate in the circumstances.
“ They were all junior officers, there were no senior officers involved, and if I think there were, the situation would have been better handled.
When he refused, the officers raided the house and broke down the garden gate before throwing him to the ground to put him in handcuffs.
Mobile phone footage shot by his wife Sarah, 36, a nurse, shows Meekcom calmly telling officers: ‘I am terminally ill, I will not be able to breathe like this.’
“ This is ridiculous, I used a speed camera. I put on a speed camera.
A female officer can be heard replying, “Well that’s an important statement you just made to us.”
Mr Meekcom said: ‘I am quite happy to say that because it was one of my wish list. I have just been diagnosed with multi-system atrophy. I am terminally ill, have a very short time to live, and it was off my wish list.
‘Have you never wanted to make the moon with a speed camera? Well, I did. ‘
Wheelchair user Darrell from Kidderminster said: “I was just flabbergasted to be arrested for using a speed camera.
“ It’s something I’ve always wanted to do because I got caught a couple of times at dumb speeds like 35 mph in a 30 zone and it always bothered me.

Wife
“ When I was diagnosed last month, my wife suggested making a wish list and that was one of the items that I now crossed out for some price. ”
Darrell, who has two girls ages 10 and eight, was diagnosed with multisystemic atrophy (MSA) last month, a terminal condition that affects the nervous system.
He says that life expectancy after an MSA diagnosis is around six years, although this varies from person to person.
“ At one point I took a photo of an officer pushing me through the window, it was like they were laughing at me and they knew what they were going to do.
“I feel like it was an abuse of police power and privilege.”
Mr Meekcom, who also has bungee jumping and skydiving on his wish list. he says he has reported the incident to the Independent Office of Police Conduct.
He has contacted West Mercia police for comment.
