Quarterback Tom Brady‘s 10-day absence from Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp was pre-planned and not the result of a family emergency, something that had been hinted at for some time, but was confirmed by another media report on Monday.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, not only was the issue of Brady’s absence known and planned in advance between the player and the Buccaneers coaching staff, there is no family emergency, and despite speculation everyone is doing well around the seven-time Super Bowl champion.

What’s next for the Buccaneers in the preseason?

The Bucs lost to the Miami Dolphins in Week 1 of the preseason and will face the Tennessee Titans in Week 2 and TB12 is not expected to be available for before that game, in what is speculated to have to do with a condition Brady placed on Tampa Bay to return from his short-lived 40-day retirement to maintain balance between his family life and his activity as a professional athlete in his 23rd NFL season.

This report dovetails perfectly with Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles‘ statement when he announced Brady’s absence from training camp.

Tom Brady: “I’m not a sports machine”

“He’ll be back sometime around Tennessee,” Bowles said. “He’s gonna deal with some personal things. This is something we talked about before training camp started. We allotted this time because he wanted to get in and get chemistry with the guys and go through two weeks of training camp knowing he wasn’t going to play the first two games.”

Tampa Bay will kick off the regular season next Sunday, Sept. 11, when they face the Dallas Cowboys.
