The Beatles are the most famous band of all time, having sold more than 600 million albums worldwide after forming in Liverpool, England, in 1960.

But one Aussie tradie could do with a history lesson about the Fab Four, as he was left stumped by a very simple question about the group on Monday’s Today show.

Leigh Collins, a furniture maker from Victoria, was asked during weatherman Tim Davies’ quiz segment to name the city the band famously originated from.

‘UK city… England?’ Leigh blankly said, as newsreader Alex Cullen mouthed the word ‘Liverpool’ repeatedly in disbelief.

When the round was over Tim told his guest: ‘The Beatles hail from Liverpool!’

Despite the presenter’s excitement, Leigh stared at the camera blankly.

Leigh didn’t seem fazed by the gaffe, and in fact appeared more annoyed that he’d answered another question wrong about dolphins sleeping with one eye open.

Let it be: Leigh, a furniture maker from Victoria, was asked during Tim's quiz segment to name the city the band famously originated from. Instead of answering Liverpool, he said: 'England?'

While he didn’t win the top prize, Leigh receive a conciliatory $100 gift card for his appearance on Nine’s breakfast show.

They won the hears of millions with their popular anthems Help!, Let It Be, Here Comes the Sun and Hey Jude.

The band is set to soar to the limelight once again later this year, as director Peter Jackson will release his long-awaited three-part docuseries The Beatles: Get Back.

It will take audiences back in time to The Beatles’ intimate recording sessions and performances during a pivotal moment in music history, when the band recorded their final album, 1970’s Let It Be.

It’s set for release in Australia on September 2, 2021.
