Bee Vang is an American actor and activist. He is widely known for his role as Thao Vang Lor in Clint Eastwood’s 2008 film Gran Torino. He has appeared on Modern Family as himself and acted in independent films and stage performances. He was a content coordinator for the 2017 documentary short Trump’s Library.
Vang was an editorial coordinator for the documentary shorts Our New President and Clowns in 2017 as well as for the shorts Timberline and Monument/Monumento in 2017 and the documentary Our New President in 2018.
Vang also appeared in an episode of the televisions series Modern Family in 2011. Vang is an activist for social justice. He has studied at Brown University and been a member of the Asian American Students Association. Vang also starred in a YouTube parody called Thao Does Wait: Lost Scenes from Gran Torino.

Early Life and Education
For his first year Vang went to Patrick Henry High School, and later joined the University of Minnesota’s advanced program. He also studied at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School in Plymouth, Minnesota.
Vang studied at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. At Brown, Vang wanted to seek an acting vocation and study filmmaking and the Chinese language. He was additionally part of the Asian American Students Association at Brown.

Vang was cast as Thao Vang Lor, a young Hmong teenager in the 2008 American buddy comedy-drama film Gran Torino. The gang is infuriated by Thao’s failure and they attack him, but Walt confronts them with an M1 Garand rifle and chases them off, earning the honor of the Hmong community.
As penance, Thao’s mother makes him paintings for Walt for a week, who has him do extraordinary jobs across the neighborhood, and the two forms grudging mutual respect. Thao is highly impressed by the extensive tool collection in Walt’s garage.
Thao’s sister Sue introduces Walt to Hmong food and culture, and helps him bond with the Hmong community, who soon come to be extra like family to Walt than his actual own family; in turn, Walter will become a better man to them than he becomes to his personal sons. Walt allows Thao to get a job running construction and gives him recommendations on courting and the way to make a verbal exchange at task interviews.
Thao faces persistent abuse and harassment from Spider’s gang; they attack him on his manner home from paintings, leading Walt to violently beat one of the gang participants and hold him at gunpoint later.
Putting a cigarette in his mouth, he asks for a light, then places his hand within the pocket of his jacket and provocatively pulls it out as if he has been keeping a gun, causing the gang participants to shoot him dead. As Walt falls to the ground, his hand opens to reveal the Zippo cigarette lighter with the first Cavalry insignia; he was unarmed.
