Clair Ablewhite, 47, was discovered dead at her house in Hall Lane, Colston Bassett, Nottinghamshire, shortly before 6.30 p.m. on Saturday. Police have identified a mother-of-three who was sadly found stabbed to death in one of the UK’s ‘poshest’ villages. Officers were called to a home in Hall Lane, Colston Bassett, around 18:30 GMT on Saturday and located Clair Ablewhite.
The 47-year-old mother-of-three died of stab wounds, according to a post-mortem test. Nottinghamshire Police confirmed that a 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident on Sunday morning and that he remains in jail while investigations continue.
‘The death of a woman at her home in Colston Bassett is being considered as murder, detectives have confirmed,’ Nottinghamshire Police said in a statement. Clair Ablewhite, a mother of three, was discovered dead after cops were sent to her home in Hall Lane soon before 6.30 p.m. on Saturday.
‘In connection with the investigation, officers arrested a 48-year-old male on suspicion of murder on Sunday morning, and he remains in jail as investigations continue.
‘Police have been conducting forensic examinations at the premises, as well as making house-to-house inquiries and reviewing surveillance video in the area.
‘A cordon is likely to remain in place for some time, and officers will be in the area as they continue their investigations and provide reassurance to residents.
‘Family liaison officers are working closely with the family and providing support at this difficult time.’
‘Our thoughts are with the family as they deal with the effect of this tragedy,’ said Detective Inspector Mel Crutchley of Notts Police, who is leading the investigation.
‘Our investigation is now in the stages of very carefully and painstakingly building up a picture of what happened before, during, and after the murder, and as people can probably imagine, this process can take time as the evidence we gather makes things clearer and clearer.
‘I understand that in a quiet, close-knit community like this, it is shocking for an incident like this to happen, and people will be talking, but I would urge people not to speculate, respect the family and please trust the judicial process find the truth in due course.
‘I would also ask anyone who has information that may help the investigation to contact Nottinghamshire Police as soon as possible.
‘It is highly unusual to see this happen,’ said Simon Robinson, the head of Rushcliffe Borough Council. We offer our condolences to the woman’s family.
‘It’s a shock for this to happen in such a rural area. The woman who died was very well known in the community.’
