Early Life, Family, and Education
Born under the zodiac sign of Cancer on 25 June 1994, in Newark, New Jersey USA, Jay holds American nationality and comes from a family of Liberian descent. He was raised in Charlotte, North Carolina by his parents, about whom he hasn’t spoken. Jay made his acting debut playing a Skater Kid in an episode of the series “Jewvangelist” in 2014. Later that year, he followed with another guest role as Len Dorchie in “Newsreaders”. In the following year, he landed the role of Danny in the short comedy-drama “Finaclimaxia or an Old Wives’ Tale”, also starring Jessica McCabe.
Jay was next seen in the TV movie “Bellman Chronicles” before his role as Martin in a 2016 episode of the series “Crowded”. Later the same year, Jay starred in short movies “The Secret Weapon” and “Stuck”, followed by his role in the 2017 critically acclaimed short drama “Benny Got Shot”, which followed the story of Naomi, an autopsy assistant, whose brother’s gone missing. That night a shooting happened, and now her biggest fear is that his body may be in the morgue where she works. The movie won the Atlanta Film Festival Award.

Later in 2017, Jay landed the role of Dresean in the drama “Listen”, written and directed by Erahm Christopher, which although having no nominations, had great reviews, and the audience rated it 9.1/10.
Jay’s breakthrough role came in 2018, when he was cast to play Shawn Scott in the sports drama “All American”, starring Daniel Ezra, Michael Evans Behling and Samantha Logan. The series follows the story of a football player who was a high school star in South Central, and is now recruited to play for a high school in Beverly Hills. It’s inspired by the life story of Spencer Paysinger, a National Football League (NFL) Superbowl Champion. The show had eight award nominations and two wins.
When it comes to Jay’s performance in the show, he was seen in less than 10 episodes during 2018 and 2019, however, it seems that his appearance in the series was enough to leave a mark in the world of television. Jay himself said that this role was a big game-changer for him. It helped him to grow as an actor, and he learned a lot from the crew.
Concurrently, Jay was seen in the 2018 short movies “One” and “Faith”, and played Mike Weaver in the comedy-drama “Throwback Holiday”, also starring Jennifer Freeman and Rhyon Nicole Brown.
In 2019, Jay was cast to play Andre in the series “A Girl Named Jo”, a mystery drama about two girls from the ’60s, who unravel a dark chapter in their hometown. In the following year, Jay was seen as Brandon James in the TV movie “Codependent”, followed by his role as Peanut in “The Tax Collector”, starring Shia LaBeouf.
Most recently, Jay played Ray in the 2020 biographic sports drama “Safety”, Jay’s first lead role, playing Ray-Ray McElrathbey, a freshman at Clemson University, who didn’t stay remembered just for his skills as a football player, but also as a great big brother who secretly raised his little brother on campus.
The movie, also starring Javien Jackson and Thaddeus J. Mixson, was nominated for the Motion Picture Sound Editors Golden Reel Award as well as the Writers Guild of America Award – Original Long Form.
Jay has six upcoming projects, and to give you a sneak peek into his future career, he’ll be seen in the series “The Spook Who Sat by the Door”, and the movie “The Private Eye”, set to be released by the end of 2024.
Love Life and Dating
Jay Reeves, like many actors and celebrities, has been the subject of various rumors concerning his romantic life. However, he’s chosen to remain tight-lipped about his dating history, and hasn’t disclosed any information about his past relationships or exes. There have been some rumors about his sexual orientation, however, Jay stated that he’s straight, although he supports the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Plus (LGBT+) community.
He was romantically linked to some of his co-stars, including Katalina Viteri, who starred opposite Jay in the movie “Listen”. However, Jay hasn’t commented on these assumptions, and the rumors about him and Katalina stopped when it was revealed that she’s married to a man known as Patricio Lara.
