Marquis Moorer was an Alabama police officer who was shot and killed Tuesday while returning home for lunch.
According to Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson, a suspect approached Selma Moorer’s officer and opened fire between 3:30 a.m. and 4 a.m., according to Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson.
Jackson said the suspect also injured a woman who was with Moorer, identified as his “partner,” AL.com reported. The woman was taken to hospital, but her condition was not immediately apparent.

Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson said Selma Police Officer Marquis Moorer was on duty and went home for something to eat early Tuesday when he was shot at the apartment complex where he lived. Jackson says a woman believed to be his wife or girlfriend was injured.
The prosecutor says that someone from outside approached the officer and “ambushed” him. More details were not immediately available. Jackson called Moorer “an honorable officer who took his job seriously.”
The chief said that family, friends and the city of Selma continue to need his prayers.
Suspect arrested
Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford confirmed Wednesday afternoon that an 18-year-old was arrested near Tuscaloosa in the fatal shooting of Selma Police Officer Marquis Moorer.
Fulford said state investigators and the U.S. Marshals Service worked tirelessly to find the suspect and make the arrest.
Fulford said the US Marshals and Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force and SBI agents arrested 18-year-old Javonte Cornuis Stubbs early Wednesday morning near Tuscaloosa.
As of Wednesday morning, Stubbs was being held at the Chilton County Jail for Dallas County authorities.
Investigation
Online booking information for the Chilton County Jail shows that Javonte Cornuis Stubbs is being held without bail on two counts of murder with a firearm and attempted murder. All three charges list the Alabama Bureau of Investigation as the agency that made the arrest.
