Who is Tom?

The eight-episode series is adapted from Patricia Highsmith’s Tom Ripley novels

Netflix has released the first official teaser for their upcoming suspense series Ripley, starring All of Us Strangers Andrew Scott. Directed by Academy Award winner Steven Zaillian, the series follows Tom Ripley (Scott) as a New York grifter in the early 1960s. When a wealthy man pays him to venture to Italy and persuade his son to come home, deceit, fraud, and murder quickly follow.

The black and white-toned teaser leaves much to the imagination, flashing images of a typewriter, a rotary phone, a staircase, and a luggage cart as characters question the identity of “Tom Ripley.”

“You’re a very hard man to find,” said a man in the teaser. “No address, phone, office.”

Dakota Fanning (The Equalizer 3) plays Marge Sherwood and joins cast members Johnny Flynn, Elliot Sumner, Maurizio Lombardi, Margherita Buy, and John Malkovich. While the series is adapted from Patricia Highsmith’s Tom Ripley novels, details of the limited series have been kept under wraps. Throughout Highsmith’s novels, Ripley plays a career criminal who is nearly caught or killed but manages to escape all perils. Scott serves as a producer alongside Zaillian, Garrett Basch, Clayton Townsend, Guymon Casady, Ben Forkner, Sharon Levy, and Philipp Keel of Diogenes.

Scott recently starred in Andrew Haigh’s All of Us Strangers and has also worked in Spectre, Victor Frankenstein, Pride, and the BBC series Sherlock.
