Could you please re-phrase this article into ‘normal’ colloquial English?
I am thrilled that the child of a migrant has made it into a government position and I do not understand why this article on his partner has to be couched into colourful and obscure terminology. It makes people wither laugh, or worse ‘suspicious’ instead of proud that our Government is finally representing the colourful mix of the Australian population.
No English speaker would use words, phrases like:
“prevailed in his hitched life” – I beg your pardon – this just makes me laugh out loud –
to be perceived as the spouse” (instead: she is the partner of . . . )
“to be born to steady and adoring guardians” (instead of “born to adoring parents?) or “invite their youngster on August 8”? (instead of born on August 8 ….) “substantially more than the above ‘gauge'” (gauge: estimate?)
such colourful terminology is quaint and might be translated from Arabic, but simply serves to distance the ordinary English speaker/citizen.
