The UK’s Bargain Hunt TV series auctioneer Charles Hanson has been charged with several offenses, including assault, after a domestic incident.
On Thursday, Derbyshire Police in a statement said officers were called to a home in Quarndon in June 2023 and a man was arrested on suspicion of assault before being released while further enquiries were made.
“On December 14, Charles Hanson was charged with seven alleged offences,” the statement added. Hanson has made regular appearances on the British reality TV series as a presenter and an antiques expert for over two decades.
The charges against Hanson include two alleging assault causing actual bodily harm, another two alleging assault by beating and one alleging he engaged in controlling and coercive behavior.
“The 45-year-old was released on police bail to appear at Southern Derbyshire magistrates’ court on 10 January,” the statement said. Hanson is known for his appearances on BBC’s Bargain Hunt – becoming the youngest expert on that TV show beginning in 2002 — and on Antiques Road Trip and Flog it.
Bargain Hunt feature two teams competing to sell their recently acquired items for a profit at auction and has Hanson playing himself as an auctioneer. Antiques Road Trip, where Hanson again plays himself, but this time as an expert, pits two antiques experts against one other over five days buying antiques and selling them in five auctions.
He also appeared in a spin-off series, Celebrity Antiques Road Trip.
Hanson began his auctioneering career at Christies and launched his own company, Hansons Auctioneers and Valuers, in Derbyshire in 2005.
