Christopher Slager to Head Film at Fifth Season

Christopher Slager has been promoted to head film operations at Fifth Season, with longtime features head Alexis Garcia exiting the company to launch a yet-to-be revealed venture.

Garcia, whose new outfit is receiving backing from Fifth Season, will remain with the company as a consultant through the transition.

According to Wednesday’s announcement from Fifth Season co-CEOs Graham Taylor and Chris Rice, Slager will focus on in-house production and development. The company’s recent film credits include 80 for Brady, the Apple Sundance acquisition Flora and Son and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Lost Daughter.

“Christopher is one of the most dynamic and entrepreneurial executives working today,” said Taylor and Rice. “We believe there is a huge opportunity ahead in the film space, and we are committed to expanding our focus on in-house production and development under his leadership.”

Added Slager, “Over the last decade and a half, I’ve been inspired by colleagues and artists whose vision and tenacity have brought forth many of the great movies of our time. Our film group at Fifth Season has learned and grown a lot over the last few years and has steadily been built to offer an alternative to filmmakers in a moment of industry transformation.”

Slager previously held posts at WME and Endeavor Content. In 2021, WME was forced to divest from Endeavor Content after the WGA’s win over the ATA on packaging fees, and eventually sold its majority stake to CJ ENM to create Fifth Season. Slager’s credits include the films The Florida ProjectMudbound and The Book Club.

Fifth Season’s upcoming film slate includes Animals, led by Matt Damon and directed by Ben Affleck for Netflix; the Samuel L. Jackson starrer The Beast; and the thriller Anniversary, with an A-list ensemble that includes Diane Lane and Kyle Chandler.
