'Hacks' Season 3 Releases Premiere Date, First Teaser

Almost two years after Hacks began its second season on Max, the Emmy-winning comedy series will begin its third installment.

The streamer will debut season three of the series on May 2. Max will run two episodes per week through May 23, with the finale of the nine-episode season debuting May 30. The two-per-week schedule will allow Hacks to just beat the deadline for Emmy eligibility — its first two seasons collected six Emmys, including two lead actress wins for Jean Smart.

Season three will pick up a year after Deborah (Smart) and Ava (Hannah Einbinder) parted ways at the end of season two. Deborah is riding high after the success of her stand-up special, while Ava is looking for new opportunities in Los Angeles.

Max also released a teaser for the coming season — and it suggests that the two characters won’t be able to stay apart for too long. From a chance meeting in an elevator to Ava carrying Deborah’s golf bag on the course, they appear to be drawn back to one another.

Hacks has also lined up a star-packed guest cast for the coming season, with Helen Hunt, Christina Hendricks, Christopher Lloyd, comedian George Wallace, Tony Goldwyn and Dan Bucatinsky all set to appear. The show’s regular cast also features co-creator Paul W. Downs, Megan Stalter, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Kaitlin Olson, Christopher McDonald, Mark Indelicato, Rose Abdoo and Lorenza Izzo.

Downs, Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky created Hacks and serve as showrunners. They executive produce the Universal Telvision series with Mike Schur, David Miner of 3 Arts Entertainment and Morgan Sackett.
