American Fiction, May December and Past Lives lead the film nominees this year with five each, while I’m a Virgo and The Last of Us were the most recognized on the TV side, receiving four nominations each. For the second year in a row, the awards categories are gender-neutral. Winners are voted on by Film Independent members.

This year’s presenters include Elizabeth Banks, Joel Kim Booster, Adam Brody, Danielle Brooks, David Brown, Sterling K. Brown, Quinta Brunson, Emma Corrin, Colman Domingo, Hannah Einbinder, Jim Gaffigan, Noah Galvin, Ronald Gladden, Stephanie Hsu, Anna Kendrick, Jude Law, Greta Lee, Jharrel Jerome, Aja Naomi King, Zoe Lister-Jones, Aria Mia Loberti, Trace Lysette, James Marsden, Thomasin McKenzie, Natalie Morales, Rashida “Sheedz” Olayiwola, Ben Platt, Lewis Pullman, Emma Roberts, Andrew Scott, Milo Ventimiglia, Jessica Williams and Jimmy O. Yang. Lily Gladstone will also serve as the ceremony’s honorary chair.

Ahead of the awards show, Bryant spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about what viewers can expect from this year’s ceremony. She teased that, for her monologue, she’ll touch on the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes from 2023, “especially because this event feels more free from the studio system. This is more internal, for those people who are really in it.”

Bryant added, “The strike affected all of us far and wide, so it would be crazy not to mention it. Personally, I was grappling with how long it took for the studios to come to an arrangement and what a squeeze it was putting on our IATSE and Teamster brethren.”

As for why she was excited to take on hosting duties, the SNL alum shared, “These awards, and what they’re about, really do touch my heart. There’s a kind of yuckiness in Hollywood sometimes, and there’s something pure and beautiful about supporting independent film.”
