Jeremy Renner is working to not get ahead of himself amid his return to the Mayor of Kingstown set following his snowplow accident.

“I don’t know if I’m looking forward to it,” Renner told People of filming the Paramount+ show’s third season, which began earlier this month. “I try to just do everything kind of step by step here. That’s one foot in front of the other. Then you’re walking.”

Renner stars as Mike McLusky in the Taylor Sheridan drama, which explores a family who keeps the peace in a fictional Michigan town filled with street gangs, prisoners, guards and cops. He returned to filming on Jan. 10, just over a year after he was critically injured upon being run over by a 14,300-pound snowcat at his home in Reno, Nevada, on New Year’s Day in 2023. The actor suffered 30 broken bones, and later said that this rib cage was rebuilt with metal, along with plates in his face to support his eye sockets and titanium rods in one of his legs. Throughout the process, he’s remained open about his road to recovery on social media.

“I think I’m excited when I’m there and I get in a rhythm there,” he said of Mayor of Kingstown filming. “I’m excited about the character and, of course, all the people involved and all that in the storyline, but for me, I’m just tentative of confidence in work.”

Renner posted about his first day on set several weeks ago, writing he was “nervous” and hopes “this works out that I can ACTUALLY pull this off for our production and more importantly the fans.”

Now several weeks in, Renner says the show is “arduous,” often requiring long days “in the freezing cold outside in Pittsburgh.” Though he is excited to be back, the actor noted the environment makes him “scared of slipping and falling” since he hasn’t yet recovered his lower body strength.

In December, Renner told CNN he’d be “doing my best” when he returned to set. “It’s been a really wonderful, wonderfully busy year, and I think I’m ready,” he said. “I think I’m strong enough.”
