Jerrod Carmichael on Going to Chiefs Games With Taylor Swift

Jerrod Carmichael and Taylor Swift are best friends — at least in his mind.

The comedian stopped by Jimmy Kimmel! Live on Wednesday to promote his upcoming docuseries, Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show. During their conversation, the late night host asked the Poor Things actor about his experience attending the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills game with Swift in January.

“That’s my best friend, Taylor’s my best friend,” he said. “Like I’m not her best friend, but she’s my best friend. Can you think of a better friend to have than Taylor Swift? I called my former best friend, I was like, ‘You’re out, Taylor’s in. You never invited me on your jet to a game.’ She’s very smart and interesting.”

Kimmel then asked Carmichael how he came to be one of her guests at the Chiefs-Bills game, with the comedian noting that she called him up and asked him if he wanted to go to with her.

“She knows more about football, more than I do,” he admitted, joking that he was “the girlfriend in that situation” because he had to ask her questions about the sport while they were there.

The actor then shared that he could already see the YouTube headline being something about how “Jerrod Carmichael says Taylor Swift’s his best friend.”

“Actually you know what, I won’t even get top billing, it will say, ‘Taylor Swift, Jerrod Carmichael’s best friend,’” he added. “Like don’t do that to me, it gotta be something else. I do love her though.” However, Kimmel did, in fact, make that the headline of the YouTube clip.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Carmichael opened up about getting his parents on board for the Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show and taking inspiration from the Kardashians and “all the Housewives” for the “intensely personal” docuseries.

“I wanted to make a show that was the show that happened after those cameras cut,” he told the host. “Like in between those scenes of what a normal reality show would be, like just me sad and in the fetal position, actually dealing with problems.”

Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show premieres on HBO March 29.
