With Succession now in the rearview mirror, Kieran Culkin is looking ahead to his next project — and even fielding offers on the red carpet.

At the 2024 Critics Choice Awards on Sunday, where Culkin took home best actor in a drama series, the star was mid-interview with The Hollywood Reporter when Bill Lawrence — creator of Scrubs, Ted Lasso, and most recently, Shrinking — approached with words of praise.

“You’ve very good on your show,” Lawrence told Culkin, “I’d like you to come and be in a comedy sometime if that’s OK.”

“I’m not very funny,” Culkin insisted, as Lawrence replied, “I’ve seen you be funny a thousand times. We’ll look each other up on IMDb and we’ll find out if we’re good people or not.”

As Lawrence walked away, Culkin exclaimed, “I think I just got a job. Fuck, I should’ve said that I was hilarious.”

When asked if he would want to do a comedy, the actor said, “To me, Succession is a comedy, it really just is. And I wouldn’t say that’s in like category fraud in terms of being a drama because I get it, it is, but it’s a comedy.”

“I was about to name a show that totally has category fraud but I’m just going to keep that to myself,” he jokingly added, before subtly dropping, “The Bear.

And as for what he wants to do next, Culkin teased, “I don’t want to talk about it because I haven’t officially said yes to it, but it actually is a comedy, so yeah. And it’s a show,” though clarifying not one of Lawrence’s shows.

On top of winning at the Critics Choice Awards, Culkin is closing out his Succession run by also winning best actor in a TV drama at last weekend’s Golden Globes, and is nominated for lead actor in a drama series at Monday night’s Emmys.
