Max is offering an early holiday gift for new subscribers — and making an aggressive move to bump its fourth-quarter numbers amid the streaming wars.

Starting Monday, Max is launching a Black Friday sale slashing its rates 70 percent for its ad-supported plan to just $2.99 a month for six months. The offer is open to new and returning subscribers (but not current ones). The regular premium plan (without ads) is the usual price ($15.99). The sale is available through Monday, Nov. 27.

The streamer is touting upcoming shows like True Detective: Night Country, starring Jodie Foster and Kali Reis, which gets underway Jan. 14, as well as recent hits like Succession, House of the Dragon and The Last of Us. The company also noted that summer sensation Barbie is coming soon to the service.

Returning shows in 2024 include Curb Your Enthusiasm (February), House of the Dragon (summer), My Brilliant Friend Industry, We’re Here, Hacks, Pretty Little Liars: Summer School, Tokyo Vice, The Sex Lives of College Girls and Sort Of.

The move follows a third quarter where total Warner Bros. Discovery subscriber numbers slipped slightly down 0.7 percent, dropping to 95.1 million, after slipping just slightly in the second quarter as well.

CEO David Zaslav told investors earlier this month that one of his goals was to reduce the amount of churn, or subscriber turnover, at the company, by introducing more sports and news offerings on Max. “Churn is the biggest issue that we face,” he said. “This is a very compelling service, the churn is too high. So, this is an all-on attack to reduce churn.”
