Mayim Bialik is no longer going to be involved with Jeopardy.
The Big Bang Theory grad posted on her verified social media account Friday that Jeopardy producers Sony Pictures Television informed her that she will “no longer be hosting the syndicated version of Jeopardy.”
Bialik — and co-host Ken Jennings — were both nominated for Daytime Emmys for their roles alternating at the lectern left vacant by the passing of the beloved Alex Trebek. Sony tapped Bialik and Jennings to split hosting duties of the long-running syndicated game show last year, capping a months-long period in which the series underwent a messy transition that saw now-former showrunner Mike Richards tap himself for the host role after a series of guest judges. He was let go a week later after many outlets, including The Hollywood Reporter, reported on the previous discrimination lawsuits he was involved in during his time as executive producer on The Price Is Right. Other reports included the crude and offensive jokes he made during a short-lived podcast he hosted from 2013-14. Richards filmed one day — a week’s worth of Jeopardy! episodes — before stepping down as host. Sony fired him as showrunner not long afterward.
Michael Davies took over as showrunner last year when Sony announced Jennings and Bialik would share the hosting duties. It’s unclear if Bialik, who previously hosted primetime specials, Celebrity Jeopardy and the college championships, will still be involved as a host for any of the franchise’s offshoots.
Reps for producers Sony TV did not immediately respond to THR’s request for comment. This story will be updated when and if they do.
