‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ Canceled: Vanessa Lachey, Stars React

NCIS: Hawai’i star Vanessa Lachey is reacting to the news the CBS series was canceled after three seasons.

The actress, who portrays Jane Tennant, took to her Instagram Stories late Friday night to share how she was feeling after learning the show wouldn’t be returning for a fourth season.

“Gutted, confused, blindsided,” Lachey wrote over a photo of the NCIS: Hawai’i logo, “Grateful, confident, beloved fans!” She added, “Processing this news and still being present with my family. I Love You all! Mahalo Nui Loa,” which translates to “Thank you very much.”

Lachey’s post come on the heels of multiple fans, cast and crew expressing their sadness and frustration over the news. Her co-stars Tori Anderson and Jason Antoon were among those reacting to the news.

Anderson, who plays Kate Whistler in NCIS: Hawai’i, shared a statement on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Having a really hard time processing this one. Thank you to our incredible crew who made every single day feel like I was living a dream. I want to say thank you to all the fans. My heart breaks for you as well. This is a huge loss for representation. Love you all so much.”

“This business is brutal and makes no sense,” Antoon, the actor behind the show’s Ernie Malik, wrote on Instagram. “But we had soooo much fun. Love you all and mahalo.”

The show’s co-creators, Christopher Silber and Matt Bosack, also took to their respective social media accounts to share their feelings about the cancellation.

“Four years ago, @JanNash100 @mattbosack and I started something very special,” Silber wrote on X. “We joined with an incredible cast, amazing writers and crew… and gathered in Hawai’i to make a show. But ended up creating an ohana. I’m so grateful to you all.”

Meanwhile, Bosack said, “I’m proud of the stories we were able to tell over these 3 seasons. To tell fun Navy crime mysteries but also dig into ideas about family, life, love, identity… To all the fans, especially those who saw themselves in these characters, mahalo nui loa. A hui hou,” which translates to, “Goodbye.”

Fans have been so disappointed over the cancellation, they even began a petition on Change.org to collect enough signatures to convince CBS to save the show. They also encouraged their fellow viewers to begin sharing tweets with the hashtag #SaveNCISHawaii.

“NCIS: Hawaii has been more than just a television show for many of us,” the petition read in part. “Over the past three years, it has become a beacon of representation and inspiration, changing lives in ways unimaginable. It’s not just about the thrilling plotlines or the engaging characters; it’s about what they stand for and how they’ve touched our hearts.”
