Tia Mowry is sharing how Sheryl Lee Ralph‘s inspirational message is still resonating with her a year later.

In a video posted on Instagram Friday, the Family Reunion actress showed her morning routine while audio from Ralph’s memorable 2023 Critics Choice Awards speech played over the footage.

“I had the honor of working with @thesherylleeralph, where she played my mom in the show, Instant Mom, and her spirit truly shines through every moment you are with her,” Mowry wrote in the caption. “Her words have inspired me greatly, especially as I’ve been learning to prioritize my self-image over others’ opinions of me.”

She continued, “At the end of the day, I’ve learned that I need to make peace with myself, and that may involve setting boundaries that other people may not appreciate. But as long as I can see my growth and be proud of the person I am becoming, that is all that matters.”

The audio Mowry used was from Ralph’s acceptance speech for best supporting actress in a comedy series for her role as Barbara Howard on Abbott Elementary.

Ralph had used the moment on stage to not only pay tribute to the late Sidney Poitier but also concluded with a powerful and heartfelt message for those listening. “To all of you watching, come close to the screen and listen,” the actress said during the January 2023 awards ceremony. “People don’t have to like you, people don’t have to love you, they don’t even have to respect you. But when you look in the mirror, you better love what you see.”

Mowry and Ralph previously starred alongside one another on Instant Mom, which ran for three seasons from 2013 to 2015.
