'Uncoupled' Season 2 Not Happening at Showtime After All

Former Netflix series Uncoupled won’t be going forward at Showtime after all.

The news comes a year after Showtime revived the comedy — which is produced by Paramount Global sibling MTV Entertainment Studios — following a cancellation at Netflix. The decision to scuttle the show comes after some work to rejigger it to fit the sensibilities of Showtime — now known as Paramount+ With Showtime after the premium cable outlet was integrated into Paramount’s flagship streaming platform.

Reps for Showtime couldn’t be reached for comment.

Season two of Uncoupled, which stars Neil Patrick Harris as a man trying to put his life back together after breraking up with his long-time boyfriend (Tuc Watkins), had been slated to film last summer but was delayed during dual strikes by writers and actors. Tisha Campbell, Brooks Ashmanskas, Emerson Brooks and Marcia Gay Harden also starred in season one.

Darren Star, who has an overall deal at Paramount Global, and Jeffrey Richman (Modern Family) created the series and executive produced with Harris and Lilly Burns. Jax Media produced alongside MTV Entertainment Studios.

Uncoupled premiered on Netflix in July 2022 to mostly favorable reviews — The Hollywood Reporter critic Angie Han praised its “wry humor and self-awareness” — but it didn’t make a big splash with viewers. The show landed in Netfix’s internal top 10 rankings just once, a week after its release, and never made Nielsen’s U.S. streaming charts.

Deadline first reported the news.
