Who is Debra Steagal ?
Actor Peter Scolari died on Friday morning at the age of 66 after a two-year battle with cancer.
The “Bosom Buddies” actor’s passing was confirmed to The Post by his manager Ellen Lubin Sanitsky of Wright Entertainment.
Scolari starred alongside legendary actor and longtime friend Tom Hanks in the 1980s ABC sitcom in one of his early television roles.
He had a career of more than 40 years in Hollywood, starring in iconic movies and shows such as “Fosse / Verdon”, “Madoff”, “The Good Fight”, “Murphy Brown”, “The West Wing”, “ER,” Gotham ” , “Law & Order: SVU” and “Ally McBeal.” One of its most recent parts was a recurring role as Bishop Thomas Marx on the CBS series “Evil.”
Scolari earned three Emmy nominations for his role as producer Michael Harris in Bob Newhart’s 1980s comedy “Newhart.” For his portrayal of the father of Lena Dunham’s character on the HBO series “Girls,” he won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.

Career
Scolari’s first continuing role was in his first 1980 sitcom, Goodtime Girls, as the juggler neighbor to the main characters. He was later cast to co-star with the then-unknown Tom Hanks, in another Bosom Buddies sitcom, as two young creative professionals who disguise themselves as women to get an affordable apartment in a women-only building. After Bosom Buddies was canceled in 1982, and still struggling as an actor, Scolari joined the cast of Newhart, alongside Bob Newhart, in 1984, where he played Michael Harris, the local yuppie television producer, until the conclusion of the film. series in 1990.

Scolari was also known for his role on the CBS sitcom “Newhart,” starring Bob Newhart as a Vermont innkeeper and aired from 1982 to 1990, and an Emmy-winning guest role on HBO’s “Girls,” in which he played the father of Hannah Horvath, the main character played by creator Lena Dunham.
“Bosom” proved to be the lead role for both Scolari and Hanks (who remained lifelong friends, according to Deadline), but ran for only two seasons, from 1980 to 1982.
“I’m a good juggler. If you want to woo a woman, you must be able to juggle five balls, fire, and knives,” he said at the time. “Before the dog park was added [to] Washington Square Park, I used to go there. Now I go to Riverside Park with my wife and a bag of accessories and juggle for an hour and a half or two depending on my hands. Afterwards, we like to go to the Boat Basin Café. You have to rehydrate after juggling , so I make myself a pellegrino with lime water. I never drink alcohol. ”
Scolari was married four times and is survived by his fourth wife, Tracy Shayne, and his children, Nicholas, Joseph, Keaton and Cali.
