Who is Harley Palise ?
A woman who was raped by two men after she was found unconscious on Melbourne’s Lygon Street has told a court that she feels “unable to find joy in her days.”
The woman, who cannot be identified, was picked up by Harley Palise, 30, and her friend Jarrod Thomas, 26, early one morning in June 2018.
They both raped her before leaving her at her home in Mernda, in the northeast of the city, with her underwear around her ankles.
“I have experienced many emotions ranging from confusion and numbness, to disbelief, fear, frustration and sadness,” the woman said in a statement read in the Supreme Court of Victoria on Wednesday.
“Sometimes I have withdrawn from my friends and family. I have felt half-hearted, unhappy, unmotivated, and unable to find joy in my days.
“My life will be affected for the foreseeable future.”
The woman, in her 30s, also said she no longer socializes in large groups and moved house because she felt unsafe living at an address known to the couple.
Thomas pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and in 2020 was jailed for a total of six years and six months.

Charges
Palise fought the same charges and claimed from the witness stand that the woman had initiated s*x with him once she got into the car.
The floor sander said it was ‘just going with the flow’.
But a jury in August found Palise guilty of two counts of rape.
And at Wednesday’s pre-sentencing hearing, Judge Scott Johns said he was not convinced by the 30-year-old’s version of events.
“The reality is … it would take a bit of persuasion to accept his client’s account of how things got started,” Judge Johns told Palise’s attorney, John Kelly.
“ In terms of what Mr. Palise says happened in the car, I don’t accept it. ”
Judge Johns described the woman as “vulnerable and defenseless.”
He also said that Palise did not use protection, which would have added to his humiliation.
Prosecutor John Dickie described the violation as opportunistic but brazen given that there was little planning involved but a high risk of being identified.
“The physical and emotional degradation … was abominable,” Dickie told the court.

The men saw (the woman) as something they could use for their own pleasure. And it is worrying that there is a certain degree of blame on the victims ”.
Kelly said Wednesday that his client’s offense was “opportunistic and lacking in sophistication.”
Palise is in custody and is expected to be sentenced on December 16.
