Former New South Wales opposition leader and Labor MP, Jodi McKay, resigned as a member of Strathfield and left New South Wales politics for good.
McKay, 52, who was replaced by Chris Minns, father of three, as leader in May, said in his resignation statement that he had seen ‘the best and worst of NSW politics’ over the course of his 15-year career.
‘The blockade has given me time to reflect and consider my future. I have been fortunate to have represented two constituencies in New South Wales, been a minister and shadow minister and, until recently, leader of the New South Wales Labor Party, ”she said.

Investigation
Just weeks after New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian walked away from politics amid an investigation into her professional and personal relationship with disgraced former Wagga Wagga MP Daryl Maguire, McKay said she always valued his own integrity ‘in public life’.
‘It is something that I have shown in my role every day. I hope it is a legacy that I leave to our Party and the politics of New South Wales ”.
The 52-year-old resigned her post as New South Wales Labor leader in June after a damaging defeat in the Upper Hunter by-elections.
In a tearful press conference at the time, she said that she felt compelled to resign, claiming that some within her party destabilized her despite having the support of the majority of her.
Chris Minns was chosen by the party as her replacement.

Ms. McKay is the fifth MP to resign this month, after former Prime Minister Gladys Berejiklian resigned under a cloud of corruption allegations.
Deputy Prime Minister John Barilaro followed him two days later, saying he wanted to pursue other career options.
Holsworthy MP Melanie Gibbons announced that she will step down to run against Craig Kelly for the Hughes federal seat, while former Transportation Minister Andrew Constance also announced a federal political turnaround.
He wants to win back the Gilmore seat from Labor.
The resignations will trigger five by-elections, on a date yet to be determined.
