Who is Lucy Dyer ?

The grieving parents of a six-month-old baby who died in a drunk car accident have described how their lives were “shattered” after the death of their daughter.

Lucy Dyer was behind the wheel of a BMW when she crashed into the family car carrying Eva Maria Nichifor in Llanelli, South Wales, in a 20 mph zone last month.

The six-month-old boy was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff for surgery but had suffered a brainstem injury.

She was put on life support, but she was pronounced dead around 2pm the next day.

Dyer admitted to driving under the influence and causing death by dangerous driving at a city crossing.

She was soon arrested and then provided a breath sample that revealed the presence of 46 micrograms of alcohol per 100 milliliters of breath, the legal limit being 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 milliliters.

Today Eva’s parents Florin and Carmen, who had been living in Llanelli but have now returned to her native Romania, paid tribute to her daughter and said ‘wherever we look there are memories of her’.

How old is Lucy Dyer ?

She is 23 year old.

Victim

A victim impact statement, which was read on behalf of Eva’s mother, Carmen, read: ‘We came to this country to ensure a better life for my family and it ended up destroying it.

“In the house where we live we cannot see him without thinking of little Eva.

Everywhere we look there are memories of her. The house is empty without her. We want justice for our baby because he was taken away too soon. ‘

Last month, Eva’s parents said they had been “heartbroken” over the loss of her, as they described her daughter as “a gift from God.”

We are heartbroken over our loss. Eva María, only six months old

They said, ‘We are heartbroken over our loss. Eva María, only six months old, will be missed by everyone.

‘She was our miracle, our perfect girl, a gift from God. She will always be in our hearts.

‘We would like to thank everyone for supporting her at this horrible time. It has meant a lot to the whole family. Now we would like to have time to cry and ask for privacy to do so. ‘

Dyer, who has a four-year-old autistic son, was sentenced just five weeks after the tragedy and has been in custody ever since for her own protection.

After the tragedy, the words “Fuck you in hell, scum” were painted on the door of her house along with dog droppings. She also received threats on social media.

Today, Dyer told the court that ‘the guilt will remain forever’ and that she would ‘never intentionally harm any child’ as she was sentenced.wikipedia

Dyer said: ‘I would like to tell you how sorry I am to the family for the tragic loss of her. I am truly heartbroken and devastated. The guilt will stay forever.

‘If I had the power to turn the clock back, I would. I can’t imagine all the pain the family is going through.

“I am a loving person and I will never be able to forget this tragedy, as I know that family will too. I am so sorry and I hope that one day, despite all this pain, the family can forgive me. Rest in peace.’

Dyer, mother of a son, from Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol and causing her death by driving dangerously at a crossroads in the city.

Swansea Crown Court heard that Dyer and a relative of hers had been celebrating the anniversary of her father’s death by drinking at the Carwyn James pub in town before returning home at 9 p.m.

Leaving the pub she had a drink when the door staff told her that she could not leave with the glass she was holding.

Prosecutor Carina Hughes said: ‘She had been drinking where she was described as’ cheerful’ and ‘boisterous’.

She was watched as she entered Heol Goffa without even braking or yielding and she collided

Witnesses say she was driving very fast. The crossing had clear markings and road markings. She was watched as she entered Heol Goffa without even braking or yielding and she collided with the Vauxhall Vectra, causing it to spin.

The BMW continued in motion and rolled onto the curb, before rolling backward and hitting a lamppost causing it to bend.

“The impact caused the girl’s mother to get out of the car with her baby screaming for help.”

Dyer told police: ‘I’ve killed someone. I have killed her. I have killed a child, right? I will never see my son again.

‘The baby is going to die, isn’t it? Oh Lord’. She added: ‘I have ruined my life.’

To mitigate, Kate Williams said

To mitigate, Kate Williams said: ‘She is well aware that human life cannot be restored.

“ A tragic irony is that she had left because it was the anniversary of her father’s death and a friend of hers had invited her so that she would not think about it.

“She had a few drinks and made the terrible decision to get back in the car. She made the decision that I think a lot of people have made in the past that she was okay to drive and obviously not.

“Her remorse is clear and she is devastated and will stay with her forever. She can’t imagine the pain the family is thinking and she acknowledges that pain and she says she really is sorry. ‘

After the case, Emma Myles from the Crown Prosecution Service said: ‘This is a heartbreaking case that has had a profound impact on everyone involved in it.

“The life of a baby ended when she had just begun but, during the brief and precious time that she was with them, Eva María was the apple of the eyes of her parents, and the loss of her is immeasurable. Our thoughts are with Eva Maria’s family.

“Lucy Dyer, who is a mother, will have to live with the consequences of her actions that night for the rest of her life.”

A fundraising page has raised over £ 9,000 for heartbroken parents.
