Painter Conrado Estrada Biography
The luck of the painter Conrado Estrada changed when he began working on the property of a plastic surgeon.
His employer was none other than Dr. Thomas Romo, director of reconstructive facial plastic surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan.
While Estrada was painting Dr. Romo’s home in Bronxville, New York, the doctor noticed his appearance and offered to rebuild the painter’s nose for free.
Romo desrcibed Estrada’s condition
Romo described Estrada’s condition as having ‘a penis in his nose’ and took him aside while doing a paint job at his home.
“I don’t mind telling people what I think,” Romo said.
“This has to be affecting his life, his relationship with other people and his ability to get a job, and his self-esteem.”
Romo has already done pro bono work through the Little Baby Face Foundation that typically helps children with facial deformities.
“Not many people know how to fix this and health insurance won’t necessarily cover it,” he told the Post.
When Romo told Estrada that he was going to help him: ‘he saw me and gave me a hug.’
They were staring at me. The children asked their mothers what had happened to me, and I avoided it by wearing a mask all the time, ”explained Estrada.
“He had come to my lips and every time he ate a bite, he touched the spoon.”
His huge nose would also make it difficult to breathe and make him snore while he slept.
Although the cause of rhinophyma is unknown, it has been classified as a form of rosacea, an inflammatory skin disease.
“I had spent six years seeing doctors and skin specialists and nothing would improve,” Estrada said.
Treatment
Rhinophyma is rare and predominantly affects men. Without effective treatment, surgery is often the only option to reduce the flank.
“I hadn’t seen a rhinophyma in about 20 years,” Dr. Romo said.
Just a few days after meeting the doctor, he was undergoing surgery in the operating room.

Dr. Romo expressed some frustration that his patient did not follow all of the postoperative instructions to the letter.
“This very happy patient did not refrain from sun exposure during his healing process, which caused brown hyperpigmentation on his nose,” he explained.

Estrada has no complaints and offers a more spiritual view of the entire episode: “I believe that God sent an angel to take care of me, and this is how I see Dr. Romo.
