Death

Among the dead are a 14-year-old, one 16-year-old, two 21-year-old, two 23-year-old and one 27-year-old. The age of another victim has not yet been identified. Turner said that of the 25 people initially transported to the hospital, 13 remain hospitalized.

A ninth-grade student from Memorial High School in Houston was among the victims, according to KHOU 11.

“Our hearts go out to the student’s family, friends and our staff at Memorial. This is a terrible loss, and the entire MHS family is grieving today,” the school said in a letter from the school to families in the district. on Saturday obtained by the outlet.

Family

On Saturday, the family of 16-year-old Brianna Rodríguez confirmed to PEOPLE that she was one of eight victims who died during Scott’s performance.

According to her family’s Facebook post, Rodriguez was in the third year of high school.

“She left our places [sic], but never from our hearts,” her family wrote. “It is with deep sadness that we rest our beloved Brianna Rodriguez. She was a beautiful and vibrant 16 year old high school girl at Heights HS in Houston TX. Dancing was her passion and now she dances her way to heaven’s gates. ”

Rudy Peña of Laredo, Texas, whose age has not yet been confirmed, also died, according to the Laredo Morning Times.

His sister Jennifer told the LMT: “My brother was the sweetest, friendliest, outgoing person, he had a lot of friends because he was always there for everyone. Yes, he was a huge fan of Travis, he loved his music.”

Kimberly Escamilla

Peña’s cousin, Kimberly Escamilla, also confirmed his death. In a tribute on Facebook, she wrote: “Rip to my cousin, we will miss you. I can’t believe this happened to you at the concert of the stars. 😭😭😭 We are always smiling and so kind !! And so handsome! ! ” I love you!!”

“[There is] nothing of this magnitude that any of us can remember, certainly that I can remember, that took place in this city,” Turner, 67, told reporters at Saturday’s conference, adding that the incident is being “thoroughly investigated and reviewed.”

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo is calling for an independent investigation into what happened Friday night and how, if at all, it could have been prevented.

Eyewitnesses to the horrific events at the Travis Scott Astroworld Festival on Friday describe a scene of chaos and fear.wikipedia

In an interview with CNN, concert goer Billy Nasser said “people were dying left and right.” He said things “heated up” about 15 minutes after Scott started his performance “and it got progressively worse.”

“People were being trampled. They would lose their balance and then trip over people on the ground,” he said in the middle, adding that there was “jostling” from the crowd.

“The barricade couldn’t accommodate all the people who were there. They were too small. It was a death trap, basically.”

While trying to help a victim, Nasser said he saw his eyes “roll to the back of his head.” He checked his pulse “and knew he was dead.”

“I had to leave it there,” Nasser explained. “There was nothing I could do. I had to move on.”

Nasser told CNN that he was “frustrated” when the concert continued despite the chaos on the floor. “I wanted the music to stop and I wanted everyone around me to realize what was going on. But people weren’t very self-aware. The kids were just going crazy and partying for the festival and not really they were paying attention to the bodies falling behind them. ”

Security, he added, was not up to par. “There were not enough security guards and there were not enough EMTs or people to help out in the crowd. The paramedics couldn’t even reach the crowd.”

Nasser also questions the number of people presumed dead. He alleges that 10 to 20 people died before ambulances could reach them after 30 to 45 minutes and believes there were “more than 100 bodies on the ground.”

“I didn’t know what to do. There was no way to help them. There was no way out, and everything was blocked.

A police officer who witnessed the incident told KPRC-TV that everything seemed to happen “all at once.”

“It seemed like it happened over the course of a few minutes,” he told the station. “Suddenly, several people on the ground experienced some kind of cardiac arrest or medical episode, so we immediately started doing CPR and moving people.”

A parent who attended the event told ABC13 that “people started pulling people over the railing to avoid being suffocated and crushed.”

“I’ve never seen anything like this in my life,” Eskins told the outlet. “I’m disturbed. Honestly, it should have stopped.”

Eskins also detailed her “terrible” experience at Astroworld early on Instagram Saturday morning.

“I don’t think she was more upset. Some of these medical staff had little or no experience with CPR. They did not know how to control the pulse, the carotid or the femur,” she wrote in the caption.

“The compressions were being done without a pulse control, so people who had a pulse were getting CPR,” he added, “but in the meantime there weren’t enough people to rotate compressions on people who didn’t really have a pulse. Medical staff He didn’t have the tools to do his job. ”

Victim

In her post, Eskins claimed that she “passed out” after people started “pushing me so hard I couldn’t breathe.” She alleged that the crowd helped transfer her unconscious body to a security guard, who took her to a section behind general admission to recover.

After coming to her senses, Eskins said she looked around her and saw people “being held with their eyes rolled” while bleeding from their noses and mouths.

A nearby security guard reportedly asked her for help after she asked if someone had been checking the pulse of potential victims.

Reporter

Another concert attendee told reporters that his hands “were crushing my own chest” while standing in the crowd. “So I kind of panicked,” he said, according to KHOU, “and that’s when I finally got out.”

His friend later added that “it got to the point where we had to walk on people’s bodies.” “You can’t do much when there are 50,000 people in a small area,” he said.
