Who is Yasmine Ercan?
The Melbourne magistrate who freed Yasmine Ercan said that would not be the case in a perfect world, but it was not reason enough to deny the 22-year-old her own bail.
Ercan and her husband Ibrahim El-Sayah were arrested and charged Wednesday for three car shootings in Melbourne in July last year.
Ercan, who is a young mother, is alleged to have been riding in the back seat of a car driven by her husband when the shooting occurred.
Crime
He said four shots were fired from a pistol, believed to be a revolver, on July 15 at a Hadfield home.
Det Luke said Ercan and El-Sayah are believed to be ‘in line with’ the El Nasher organized crime family, which has been in an ongoing dispute with the rival Al Hamza family since 2018.
He said the Hadfield home was believed to have been targeted for the mistaken belief that it was related to a ‘rival’ family, but was not actually related.
Approximately 20 minutes later, five shots were fired from an assault rifle, related to the first shooting, at another house.
Interview
The police have submitted a request to interview another man, who is currently in custody, in connection with the shooting.
Det Luke said police had used listening devices to monitor the couple since November and claimed that Ercan was “actively encouraging his” El-Sayah couple to commit crimes.
“She encourages him to commit crimes, especially for money, but she also encourages him to commit these shootings,” he said.
The detective said Ercan appeared to get excited by the shots.

Investigation
Ercan has also been investigated for a $ 750,000 purse theft and allegedly encouraged El-Sayah to commit another robbery, in what police allege is a conspiracy to commit a robbery.
Ercan’s attorney, Philip Dunn QC, said Ercan was only 22 years old and had family support.

She said the bail conditions included that she would live with her mother and get a drug counselor to help her.
Ercan and El-Sayah are not due to return to court until April next year.
Judge Olivia Trumble said it would be unlikely that a court hearing would take place before late 2022 or early 2023 and that no trial would take place during the 12 months afterward.
“In my opinion, she is a very young person, and it is said that much of this offense occurred when he was even younger,” she said.
Ercan was ordered not to have any contact with any of her co-defendants, including her husband. She must also respect a curfew.
El-Sayah did not request bail.
