Investigation
LVMPD’s Fatal Detail detectives have been called in and would take up the investigation, police said.
Ruggs’s attorneys, David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld, said in a statement that they are conducting their own investigation “and asking everyone to reserve the trial until all the facts are gathered.”
Henry Ruggs III Car Accident
In an email, a police spokesperson confirmed that the accident involved a Chevrolet Corvette driven by Ruggs and a Toyota Rav4. Investigators believe the Chevrolet collided with the rear of the Toyota, which caught fire.
Firefighters responded and one person was found dead in the Toyota, police said.
Ruggs remained at the scene and showed signs of deterioration. He was taken to UMC for treatment and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
LVMPD says he will face a charge of driving under the influence resulting in death.
